All conventional aircraft have a download on the tail. This is one of
the advantages of the canard config. The tail and the wing lift.

You mean "canard and wing" lift. That's what I was hinting at,
thus the smiley face. Don't need no stinkin' long empty tail cone
(wasted volume) and surfaces lifting down :-) (defeats the purpose)
Sorry, just a little canard humor.

On the LEZ engine mount subject:
Despite my heavy plane my stall speed is 55
knots, I usually approach at 80 knots and touch down at 70
knots. But if I approach at 75 knots and touch down at 65
knots the decrease in energy is readily apparent, much shorter
landing roll.

My engine installation is very heavy, don't have exact numbers,
but I only have 4 lbs. lead in the nose, and that will go away
as soon as I redo the intake manifold. The reason I don't
have a cg problem, is I have a lot of useful ballast: two 25AH
RG batteries and a weather radar antenna in the nose.

I might add that Perry is using the stock intake and cast iron
exhaust manifolds that are very heavy indeed.
