I'm excited too Dave, and will help him all I can.  First flight was

back in

the 70's and the design speed of the plane was around 450 MPH.  Back

then,

qualification speed for unlimiteds was 410 and Dave had a chance to

cruise

to victory without having to go over cruise power setting!  If only he

had

been able to solve cooling problems (sigh.......) Unfortunately, today's

big

buck racers have pumped up the Merlins to the very edge of destruction

and

unlimiteds are going 480 (for a few minutes)   :-)

We are going to make one more try to get the Motec EFI controllers

working

($15,000.00 invested!) but if no joy, will install
some EC2s.

This is the kind of project that excites all of us! Plus talk about great
publicity for the rotary. I think you are right, cooling will make or break
this thing. If you guys need any help sizing ducts etc let me know. I'm sure
between all of us we can solve the problem. One question I have is about
intercooling. I don't see any intercoolers! Since it is a race plane only,
there are some things that can be done. You could use alcohol/water
injection. What are the rules about fuels in the unlimited racers? Although
range would suck, you could use a better racing fuel like alcohol, this
would definitely help with charge cooling.
