The low temp soldering/brazing filler rod is not compatible with the
TIG
welding process. That "solder" is not really aluminum and boils out
when
one tries to weld over it. If you can tack weld with that stuff then
why
not weld up the whole manifold with that process? In my experience
it is
strong enough. There are also flux coated oxy/acet aluminum welding
rods
that will do a perfectly adequate, though not pretty, job.

Perry if you don't want to do this. I will tig tack weld it for you and
then you can give it to Bruce to be welded or I can give it to my local
tig welder.
You will then need to pay my welder. I am not good enough yet to do a
good
overall job. Bruce does a better job than my local tig welder.

Are you willing to weld it Bruce, after it is tig tacked together? We
have
quite a few of these intake manifolds to make.

Plan B. Get Mike Wills welder to do another one.

Yes, I would be willing to weld 'em up.

Thanks for all the info and the offers to help. Being located up in the
Canada makes sending this thing down to the 'states to get welded would more
pain than it's worth. I'll resort to plan "C" and build a jig today to hold
everything where it's supposed to be and get a local shop to weld it.

Perry Casson

That sounds like the best plan Perry.

OK guys,
Please educate me as to why an intake manifold cannot be brazed.

You got me. It probably can be. Might not be as strong but is sounds
like it is worth a try.
