Please try to read this DXF file for me and let me know
what CAD program you are using.

Here is the iges file. I zipped it up to make it a little smaller. This

is optimized for mastercam.

That sort of worked Monty. I got the outline of the plate but nothing
else. No holes no dimensions. Interesting.

Exactly! You don't need the dimensions! They are contained in the iges
database. The dimensions are just for the benefit of slow protien based
machines like you and me. When you make the tool paths in mastercam all you
need is the 3D info, not the dimensions, notes, etc. You use the drawing to
check the finished part if you like.

Did the plate not have holes in it, or do you mean that there were no
dimensions on the holes?

No holes in the plate drawing. If it was to exact scale and with the right 
size holes I could dimension it on my end.

Sorry about sending the bmp files. I usually send gifs or jpgs. I forgot to
select that option when I saved the renderings.

No real problem. xv converts bmp to gif in an instant.

BTHW about standardizing on autocad dxf, I'll believe it when I see it. If
all of these idiots would get off their proprietary database crap and make a
package like Rhino we would all be able to talk to each other. UG must have
gotten after Rhino, because when I first got Rhino it  would open and save
UG files, I don't think it will save a UG file any longer, and may not be
able to open (haven't tried it since they eliminated ease of use in this
regard). It will export an iges to UG, but I don't think it will export a UG
file. Of course if they did that they couldn't charge 30K per seat and 5K
maintenance fee per year!

Anyway, what version of AutoCAD are you running? I'll try to export again
this time for your package.

UG??? I am running ACAD R12. Wow if you can do that... that will be great.
Would it not be wonderful if we had a utility that would take in
any version of ACAD DXF's files and everybody else's DXF files and output
to dwg's or compatible DXF's to everybody else. 

What does Rino cost? Sounds pretty good.
