This is pie in the sky engineering at this point, but I thought I'd
throw it out and see what you guys think.

Was thinking about weighing the plane, especially after mods and stuff,
and wondered if there wasn't an easier way.  Flat strain gauges attached
between the underside of the fuselage and landing gear seemed the
easiest answer.

Advantages:
1. real time weight & balance measurements for every takeoff,
2. save some time during complete condition inspections,
3. they're cheap now, at $21-52 each,
4. the flat ones will not produce any added drag,
5. attaching to a tail wheel is easy.

Difficulties:
1. initial calibration is a logistical issue, not an engineering one,
2. attaching a gauge to the front strut without interference to strut
ops,
3. where to run the leads from the gauges to the computer.

It is worth the effort if it works 8-).
