I'm with you on this one Paul. Separate high quality oil cooler is the way to go.
The 3rd gen had marginal oil cooling with only one, the R versions had two oil coolers for twice the area and this worked well. The early RX's that didn't have a separate cooler had serious oil cooling problems.
