I got another problem. For some strange reason I think my tach is off.
Any of you EE types have any suggestions for making a cheap tach
that will work with mags? Preferably digital.
I am not an EE type (whatever that is) but:
How did you determine that it was off? and by how much?

EE = electrical engineer.
Well it won't go over about 2200 RPM.
Never the less the airplane takes off and climbs out smartly. The
performance is excellent and the engine is much smoother than my old O-470
because it has four dynamic balancers on the crankshaft instead of only two.
Now it could be that my prop governor fine pitch setting is off. Or it could
be there is something wrong in the intake system as I don't seem to be getting
full manifold pressure either. I am still in the trouble shooting stage after
I installed the new engine in the C182. Perhaps the throttle cable is
bottoming out before the throttle is wide open. Could be the same problem with
the prop governor cable.

Check Tower Hobbies for visual (photocell) tachs at

They had some for $23.00. Might be a cheap place to start for troubleshooting
on the ground. Then again you might canabolize the $23 unit and remote mount
the photocell. should be an accurate cheap place to start.

COMMENTS: Because of its sensitivity, this does not know whether it is
looking at a propeller or an incandescent or florescent
