With a few hours of experience it becomes easy to nail down the

point of

best economy which happens just barely off the bottom of standard O2

sensor

scale (about .1 volt output).  In fact, after awhile you can adjust

to this

point using your ears alone.  The rpm drops off about 1 semitone

(i.e. A to

A flat for you musical types).  Some pilots are reluctant to adjust

the

mixture to a point where the engine is not running at its "best".

That's

OK, but to adjust mixture for peak rpm wastes a lot of fuel in

cruise.  It

also explains why some think the rotary eats a lot of gas.

Given that the ratio between semitones is 1.06, (12^(1/12)), that would

be a drop

from, say, 5500 to 5200 RPM. Are you serious?
