Funny you should mention that.  I live in a housing tract of 1/4 acre lots...lots of homes close around us here. Myself and other neighbors just successfully won a case in court against a neighbor's kid who was playing his stereo/subwoofer overly loud at all hours, all summer.

Having said that, when researching the noise ordinance,  I was wondering what the neighbors would say when I start the test runs of the Lycoming engine in 2002 (and in a year or so, the Mazda in it's aircraft configuration) here in my back yard.

I found something very interesting...the law in our town provides specific exemption to it for any sound created by an aircraft engine!

Of course, they are referring to the noise from the planes that occasionally fly over that are approaching and departing ROC, but the law does NOT specify WHERE the engine is located in the law! Just that it is exempt!

But, to be on the safe side, I've also involved most of my neighbors within three or four houses in every direction, so that they are anticipating it as much as I am...a bit like inviting everyone to a party, so none will feel left out! <G> With promised rides for all!

And, I won't have any need to be running the engine at 2 AM, or for 12 hours a day, like the kid with the stereo.
