Group, I can see where you might get an extra long screw between runners B-C but something has to give around the mounting hole on upper right of D.
There is one company i saw who will send you a kit of PVC pipe, angles, and a flange, you bolt their flange on you engine and the cut and glue the PVC sections together till you have your dream custom fit manifold... an exaust manifold. You send them the PVC kluge and they send you the real thing. But I see no reason the same idea won't work with a tubular intake?

That sounds interesting Chrissi. Got a name for them?

That screw is one of the problem areas and if you look at the stock manifold
you can see Mazda dealt with it by a couple of bumps inside the runners.

I guess the PVC pipe model trick is OK. I tried making one from tubing
and it is very hard to make the transition from oval to round and still
clear the stock turbo.  I suspect the company that would make
it out of steel tubing would have a problem with that. I could be
wrong of course.

Here is another rendering that hints at the problem. Notice it not only
transitions from oval to round it goes off at an angle. Every A/C installation
needs an intake manifold so eventually we hope to get the cost down
below the cost and hassle of making custom ones from tubing or composites.

Paul, what about Jay-Tech, remember that company?  I think they were run by a puertorican guy in New Jersey?  Their website has been down for a while, but they had the drag racing stuff for the 13B, including intake manifolds that were tight on the engine and set up for high RPM/Horsepower with a flange for a mustang throttle body.

Maybe Jon Lauter can get a hold of him, there may be a supply of functional intakes or molds out there already.  There seems to be a high failure rate in the rotary tuner shop business, we should probably keep close tabs on the ones with applicable technology so we can perhaps aquire molds and so on at less than development cost.

Also Paul, I am curious as to what material you had in mind for making intakes.
