Nah that's not it. I owned the second computer store in the world back in
1976 and ran it for about 20 years. We started assembling our own PC's
for sale back in the days of the Z80 and CPM. HP used to be known
merely for High Prices. Recently the quality control has gone to hell
since they started competing on price. Believe it or not the son of David
Packard, David Packard Jr., bought a PC from my store back in the 80's. Another
little known fact. I sued HP back in the late 70's for patent infringement and won.
The patent was a method of programming computers using a light pen.
Easily verified if you search the patents.

My son and I might have visited your store back then. I still have the Altair that he
assembled,
stored in the carboard box that it was shipped in. As you say the quality has gone down

with the reduced prices - I finally threw away one of the first HP color scanners that
was
working well  - bullet proof - but I "needed" to upgrade. Vance
