I think Greg Richter and Rick Price would agree that .66 mv per degree
per second +/- 20%
would be near useless.

Remember that the output from a rate gyro gets integrated over time to
derive an angular position. Any errors in the rate gyro become greatly
magnified and must be removed by correction methods (i.e., long term sensing
of a gravity vector, detection of magnetic fields, detection of GPS
attitude, etc.). A rate gyro with a 20% error rate just wouldn't cut it.
The spinning mass position gyro is really a pretty amazing device, very hard
to duplicate its function in a strap-down electronic sensor.

Anybody know how much drift there is in a laser ring "gyro"? I would think the
drift would be very small, but have no practical knowledge of how they really
worked out. The theory makes it seem like they should work incredibly well, but
anybody know how the real world comes out?
