Exhaust augmentors work on the same principle as a water jet-pump.  If you
inject a high velocity stream of water or exhaust in the center of a larger
tube, it creates a low pressure area that will suck in air (water), entrain
it with the exhaust, and the combination flows out the augmentor tube, or in
the case of the water pump through the water supply pipe.

Water jet pumps are routinely used in wells, the motor and centrifugal pump
are located top side, a concentric (or double ) pipe goes down the well, and
then the top-side pump pumps (a small volume of ) water down the well,
through the nozzle, which entrains more water, and a larger volume of water
comes up the pipe and into the storage tank.  No moving parts in the well,
just pipe.

Paul has posted pictures of Charly Airesman's exhaust augmentation
previously.  Charlie did an exceptionally fine job, because the cooling air
flow is a straight line from the NACA inlet -- through the radiator -- past
the tip of the exhaust pipe -- on out the tail end of the plane. Very
efficient.

A local E-racer builder has added augmentors to his IO-540 Supercharged
Lycoming powered E-racer, and now he no longer has cooling problems on the
ground.
