it is
where Ford located the oil pump in the modular V8. On the
cranks nose,
up out
of the oil level. As you might note the Chevy small block V8
had the
oil pump down in the pan submerged in oil all of the time.

Nah I am just going to sell the Mercury lemon. Real shame. I like
the way it
rides and handles. Robin and I are waiting for the RX8. In the
mean time we also need a Honda mini van. The Dodge was way too
maintenance
intensive.

1977 when I read the Popular Science article and subsequent tear
down of 2
Lincoln's after 25K. Back then they advertised 25K or 1 yr
between changes.
I go 10-15K myself....most of my mileage is 70 miles a day on the
freeway.
They probably changed the recommendation to make more $$$ and
because people
didn't believe it! My '99 Passat (made in Germany) has a 7500K
interval in
Europe, they tried that at first here, but Americans are brain
washed. So it
got bumped back down here, and that's for Dino oil. I think VW
knows
something about their engines, they offer a 10yr/100K warranty on
everything
including the Turbo. They are also adamant about NOT doing your
first change
until 5K. The Engines are pre-flushed at the factory, then filled
with an
spec lube that aids in Piston ring setting, thus protecting their
10yr/100K
warranty. Must work too, as I know many with my same 1.8T 150HP
(stock)
engine pumping out 350+ with Turbo/Exhaust upgrades....and they
live just
fine. (used now in Passat's, Beetle's, Jetta's, Audi A4 and TT's
(in TT's
225HP!).
* Aircraft service of course is something different. Be curious to
hear from
Mobil, and Racing Beat (Racing Beat was one of the Syn Lube
Pioneers...all
their Racing Rotaries in the '80s used Amsoil.......)
