This is my old engine. Notice the best BSFC on this
engine is .53 much much worse than my new engine.
Probably because of the much lower compression ratio.
This is sea level so no leaning is possible above
65% power which means the pumping losses are higher
with the throttle partially closed.
It will run auto gas however. Kind of a mistake on my part
for buying the newer high compression engine because now
I cannot run auto gas.
There are hundreds of thousands of the these old AC engines out
there and they find their way into a lot of experimental airplanes.
This is the real world. Not some $40K fuel injected modern day
wonder.
BTW Ken, notice the difference between full load HP and prop
load. No aircraft engine is loaded down to speak of
at low RPMs so the issue of how well a PP port will
work at low RPM hardly matters. All that lore of high intake manifold
velocity and low speed torque flies out the window.
All the geared engine need do is idle well at 2000 RPM or less.
