I did not like PDS 7.1 as much as QB 4.5. Seems they added so much more
and that took more of the 640K which left less for the program.
Unfortunately as I recall it was never developed into a full DOS extender
version which would have been a kludge of course but still would work fairly
well. The ACADR12 that I use is a DOS extender version. I also run
a DOS extender version of Lotus 123. Not the best way to do it but it
seems to work well. Microsoft considered DOS extenders programs a threat
to their hegemony and the emerging Windows OSs.

I remember those and all the little patches that you needs and switches
etc, the fun old days.

The best way of all would be a 32 bit DOS. Never happened unfortunately.
What this all means of course is any program you write in QB will have
a source code below 32K or an executable below about 64K as I recall.
Not exactly sure about these limits. Not a problem for a engine monitoring
program but could be a problem for a moving map program.

There is a way to do it over 64k but I don't recall exactly how. I know I
did one
that was about 600k but only once. Everything else was always way under 64k.
I even did a clone of the efis article you did and I think it came to about
23k.

I have just discovered a development package called QB2C which is just

great. Runs on Linux takes a sub set of QB and converts it to C source
code and ultimately a compiled version. Check it out :-)>

You know every time you find one of these things I get out my slackware disk
look at all the windoze partitions and try to figure out which ones gonna
go, then
common sense and fear weighs that against the brain damage caused by
the frying pans swung by the wife.
