I heard someone suggest running a small 1/8" dia eductor tube into an exhaust
pipe to act as an eductor and thus a vacuum source. I would think that if
there were some merit to this, it would have been used a long time ago.

Brian, this is used as a crankcase vent only. Typically there is a special check valve in line too, a GM part. There was some discussion of this on Lycoming engines used in canards a while back.
