We spend a lot of time staring at our new engine, its not difficult because the stand
is in the middle of the living room (Bruce did a really good job).
It is a GEN 3 with an early front cover on it to allow for the lower front engine
mounts.
If the water pump were removed and a plate were installed in between the pump and the
front cover you could have a substancial plate for upper mounts. There is enough space
between the crank angle sensor housing and the front cover for a 1/2" think alum plate
if one so desired. I was thinking this thick in order to machine in cups for some
rubber mounts at an angle. Then an e-shaft pulley with the same thickness offset as the
plate thickness is made. The geometry appears to give a nicely distributed load.
Ken's mount inspired me.

Are you sure that 1/2 inch plate and single top front cover 10 mm bolt will take
a six G drop in or pull up? Given a 200 pound engine plus PSRU, prop, starter etc.
I don't think we are on the same page; there are 6 bolts holding the water pump housing on to the block.
I'm talking about a rather huge flat plate up to 1/2" thick, 18" wide, 4.5" high sandwiched between the block and the pump housing with water passages thru.
Thinking outside the box, Chrissi
You are right I misinterpreted "between the pump and the front cover."
You probably meant "between the pump, the front cover and the block."
Yep that should brace the plate well enough. Here are pictures of
Mecanair's implementation.
You will need a new oil pan and perhaps a new alternator mount.
Worth a try. Hope the vibration does not lead to oil and water leaks.
