Subject: turbo exaust manifolds T3 fits.

Turbonetics used to be a good place to buy turbos. Then they were
bought by a company that tried to corner the after market of the
turbo performance industry. They immediately doubled or tripled the
price
to
get the bought companies purchase cost back as quickly as possible.
Too bad. Turbonetics used to be a great company to do business with.

That's odd. I got my turbo from them last summer for about $770, which
was a
good price considering I sent them no core. Basically, it's a hybrid
T3/T4.
Stock RX-7 hot side (wheel and housing both), stock bearing housing,
T04b
comp wheel and T04 Garret compressor housing. The hot side housing was
ceramic coated. Included new wastegate actuator modified to fit around
the
T4 housing.

IIRC, they charged $550 for a basic rebuild of the stock turbo, with
core.

It is a recent development. $770 is a good price. I based my judgment on
what they recently wanted for a Spearco intercooler core and what they told
me
at OSH last summer on a TO4. I have not priced a TO4 lately. Perhaps they
lowered the
prices for you.

Interesting that the T3 turbine fits the Mazda stock 89-91 turbo manifold.
How much boost are you getting now Mike?

Paul Lamar

Somehow I doubt they lowered the price for me :) Now Spearco's product line
has gone way up since the import racing crowd started adding intercoolers to
everything - even NA cars :)

The stock turbine is a T3 clone. Customizations by Hitachi for mazda include
the internal wastegate and exhaust housing divided scrolls, and of course
bolt patterns. Other than that it IS a T3. Don't recall the wheel
classifications right now, but you can directly swap any T3 CHRA for the
Mazda one.

Speaking of that did your T3 from Turbonetics have the divided scroll?
I did not see that bolt pattern in the Turbonetics catalog I have.
Sounds like they are shipping the Hitachi parts.

Right now I am getting no boost at all. (The motor is still apart) I've been
very busy with work and school and prepping a friends race car for this
season... always time or money. You can only have one at any given time.
Usually neither.

I drove an 89 RX-7 turbo with street port and this turbo sans ceramic, and
boost was an impressive 10-11 PSI in top 3 gears. This was with all
catalytic converters, stock mufflers, and stock intake system. I anticipate
about 15 PSI when he opens the exhaust up.

For myself, I want about 10 PSI across the board but at a greater efficiency
than the stock turbo. Should be easily realizable.

Mike Harrington

Thanks for the info Mike. We have a somewhat easier time of it because
we don't need rapid acceleration and boost down low at say less than
4500 RPM.
