On the race car we use an electronic distributor and use just one pickup

to

fire both coils through two MSDs. There is little power lost at high

RPMs by

not spreading the timing between leading and trailing and some is gained

on

the first system with the improved timing accuracy.

I must assume you are running leading and trailing at the same time, which
would allow you to waste-fire the trailings. I need to keep the separation
for emissions purposes; this is my street car and I am looking at this as a
reliability mod not a performance upgrade. With 1st gen igniters going for
$180 new and used but good 2nd gen coils a dime a dozen (I have 4 or 5 sets
myself) I thought of this as reasonable.

If you have a distributor now, you could add two MSDs or Chrysler amplifiers and trigger them with the stock pickup coils. You won't need the "igniters" at all.

The igniters are very sensitive and will fire when you slam a door too hard. Going to a Crane or MSD CD system will improve emissions, performance and reliability, and you don't use the igniters.
