Hello experts,

Looking for suggestions on how to cool a 1 1/2 " diameter by 12 " hardened steel shaft to say - 50 degrees so as to be able to slip a gear on. Have heated the gear to 400 F and frozen the shaft but it is still a little too tight.
Also what is the coating on that exhaust pipe that has been pictured lately and Paul the rotary anatomy picture was good, do you have a similar one for the various ports ?

Cheers,

John

I'll scrounge around for a port picture.

Try hitting up your local market for some dry ice. Get enough to encase the shaft and don't be surprised when it rings like a bell as the shaft shrinks. When the singing stops the shaft has reached the temp. of the dry ice.
