BTW over the road heavy duty truck engines are good examples. Check the size of their
plumping for a 350 HP engine. You will see four or five inch exhaust pipes
and huge intakes and air filters.

Over the road truck engines are turbocharged diesels that run with a lot of excess air (don't recall the amount, but AF ratios could easily be 30:1. The air handling system on any diesel (even naturally aspirated) is much bigger than for a gasoline engine of comparable power because of the excess air. NA diesels also run with excess air (although usually not as much as with a turbo diesel), or they would produce horrendous amounts of black smoke.

If thats the case, then maybe one of the ford diesels from  a 1-3 ton truck might be sized about right?
