What about some fiber optic cables to a point on the dash. It

        John that is a good idea. If it is dark under the
cowl, then the readout will not show anything.
When a fire starts then the end of the fibre optic
in the cockpit shows orange or red. BINGO time!

Guys, there will be smoke long before there is fire, if oily

smoke then a lot of soot or smudge on optics even if there is
much airflow.

Put the video cameras out on the wings looking at the pusher cowling.
They should see any smoke coming out of the pusher cowling.

Great idea, Chrissi. This would be handy for backing up too!
