In response to Linda and Polly Endrasik. Air cooled rotarys do exist, I have one. It was made by Sachs for snowmobile use. As far as diesels go, I have seen diesel rotarys at the E.A.A. convention in oshkosh. However, I am unsure if they were actually available, or prototype.( Try www.wankel-rotary.com/ )  This is based on my very limited experience, so it wouldnt surprise me if there were  more examples.
