I appreciate the attached drawing.  We have been over  this before
but
sometimes (not always)  the line art that appears in the body of the
message is very faded  and hard to view. I am not assuming that this is
your problem.   Looks like a fax when the machine is about out of
ink.     The attached [dwg] files which I view in Vector Works are
perfectly

Sounds like Windows took the cue from the Mac and did not include a
standard
gif viewer like NetScape does. Which Mac gif viewer are you using?
Perhaps from
the sounds of it ("body of the message") it could be built into your
email program?
In that case which Mac email program are you using?

Who else is having problems with the gifs and what viewer are you using?

That is an interesting question.  Who knows and how do I find out?
Images that are just pasted into the body of the e-mail and are opened
automatically are the problem and it may be restricted to GIF's.    I
just sent myself a jpeg of a drawing and it was quite clean and clear.

My Cad Program does not have the option of saving in GIF format, so I
could not test that.    I have downloaded Graphic Converter which would
do the job if the GIF were attached and I could move it to Graphic
Converter, but for embedded GIFs I don't have a clue.

OK here is a possibility. Turn off "Automatically Show Attachments".
That will then give you the option of saving them to hard disk as a gif
file.
At that point you should be able to use any viewer to look at them.

   My mail
program is "MAIL:" which is built into  OS X.   This is the only problem
I have had with this program.  I can also choose to use Outlook
Express,  Netscape or Eudora.  I will have my wife generate a GIF in
PhotoShop and send it to me.    That will prove that the problem is mine

Mac sending a Mac gif to the Mac should work. I send all my gifs to myself
and they are clear as well. ACAD generates them and Netscape and xv  views
them fine.
Well it must be something to do with the Mac as nobody else is complaining.

Netscape seems to have an excellent viewer built in for all platform
versions. Try that. Also somebody recommended Opera as an email program
with built in viewer.
