Ed,

I also have the stock '91 be it cannot be reversed without re-drilling

the mounting holes as they are not symmetric.  also remember that if you
reverse it, then it places the turbo much lower and you will then need a
return oil pump.

    As best I recall the turbo can not be reversed for the reason you
stated, however, the entire turbo exhaust manifold on my J 91 can be
reversed and once a small bit is ground off one of the exhaust flange to
make room for the tension bolt, it can be place on the block in reverse.
So, if you manifold won't must be different from the one I got on my 91.
