I have not implemented that part of it yet.
The band should fill the gap. You don't need it on the starter side.
Or at least it won't fit with out a bit of fudging over the starter
casting.

Perhaps not on the bottom as the plate is cut straight across down there.

The function of this strip (and Tracy's blocks) is it is designed to take 
the shear load due to engine torque and dropping the airplane in with six G's.
Therefore the near vertical portions are most important.
