We have looked at several sites that mention heavy fuel
rotary's.
(diesel,
kerosene, jet A, JP4, JP5 etc) but none so far have had any
detailes.
We have been thinking about a diesel rotary, but not compression
ignition, spark
ignition instead.
Some reasons for this is heavy fuel is oily, so the apex seals
should be
able to
get their lube from the fuel itself. I think it was an article
on OMC
that stated
they had problems getting the engine started.
Does anyone know the specific heat in diesel (heavy fuel) as
compared to
gasoline?
Royce
All of these alternate fuel have a lower heating value per pound
than
gasoline
but some of them have higher density making then more competitive on
the per
gallon basis - some examples per an old reference of mine -
fuel high heating value btu/lb
gasoline 20,230
kerosine 19,980
fuel oils 18,630
methyl alcohol 9,063
ethyl alcohol 12,835
by the way - Hydrogen is about 40,000per lb, but about 150 per cubic
ft

Thanks Vance, has anyone worked on a diesel rotary, that is a company
developing
anything in this regard?
Royce
There has been advertising of a diesel rotary (two rotors, 80hp) in germany
from wankel rotary. Look at http://www.wankel-rotary.com/seite1_e.htm, they
speak of a project of a family of diesel rotaries.

They are no longer available.
