Are the recesses for stubs to be pressed in? If so, shouldn't they be bored also?

TIG welded in or JB Weld epoxyied in. Press in would be near impossible
due to the 90 degree bend of the runner. You might need to clean it up a 
bit so the pipes fit. I think Tom made these a bit undersize as well.
