Last night's jet lag (woke up at 2am) got me thinking about some oil
system
details that Brian and I touched on.

He is machining an adaptor plate to fit the oil filter mount plate and
connect up hoses to an remote filter. I figure you could use one less
hose by
plumbing block-cooler-filter-block, and them just making a blanking
plate
for the oil filter mount milled to connect the oil ports.

Checking the schematic, indicates the following consequences:
1. One less external oil line.
2. Oil lines shorter as the filter will likely be located back by the
cooler
any way.
3. Easier routing, no need to route two tubes back past the
intake/ignition.
4. Filter sees unregulated px instead of regulated.
5. Failure or wear of the regulator could cause system debris.

Point five seems to me to be a very unlikely failure mode. Anyone have
experience or comments on this.

My second thought was concerning maintenance. Those of you putting
radiators
under the engine (Brian/Mike/Paul...) have you made any provision for
oil
changes? Are you planning on an oil drain valve with hose overboard,
or
just
accepting a radiator drain and removal each oil change?

I have the same problem in my 182. The oil drain plug is just above the
muffler
so I plan on using a hose out of the bottom of the pan with a plug on
the
end.

With the oil warm you can suck it out of the distick hole with a hand
pump.I
do both my cars and the RV this way. Nice and clean too- staight into the
waste container.

Having seen any comments to the idea of plumbing the oil filter into the
cooler return line.
