Some questions on the alloy end plates.
From earlier posting's there was discussion on using aluminium end plates.
Was there not a wear problem with these and many suggestions to use
ceramic coating.
End plate supplied by Racing Beat, what grade of alloy is used. Are they
cast or machined from plate or billet.

Coatings of almost all kinds are very problematic and that is why I suggest the
detonation gun method. If fires carbide particles at the aluminum at supersonic
speed and they mechanically embed them selves in the aluminum surface.
That is the main reason for the two piece end housings. The wear surface can
be 4130 steel sheet, hardened and ground. Even nitrided for super hard
and super low wear.
I don't know what alloy Jim at RB is using and he won't tell me what kind of
coating he is using.

This is an excerp from the Racing Beat web site on the housings:
After each aluminum housing is cast, using A356 Aircraft Alloy, it is heat treated
to ?T-6? hardness and then CNC-machined prior to being flame-sprayed and ground to
a final finish. The greatly increased wear resistance is the result of this
aerospace originated flame spray (or plasma spray) process that imbeds into the
wear surfaces a proprietary carbide material whose durability greatly exceeds that
of the nitride surface found on the stock cast iron housings.
During development testing, and the subsequent application of these housings in
very high horsepower, turbocharged engines, it was not uncommon to find no
measurable wear on these housings. We have found the flame spraying process to be
so effective that we utilize the process on stock side housings with the same
excellent results.
This appears to be the same coating/Treatment that Paul is referring to.

This is all they list, the front and intermediate housings for the 13B and the 20B
must be the same, or they don't make them for the 20B, but they are probable the
same?

Technically speaking flame spray is not the same as detonation gun coating.
