Once the leak is there, I know of no way to stop it.  But on my last engine
job, I finally (after many different failures) found how to get a completely
leak-free joint!  First, I read the instructions, then I followed them.
Amazing how well it worked.

After disassembling the offending joint, clean it.  Then clean it again.
Then use lacquer thinner to clean it two or three more times so that you
could eat off of it.  There should not be a trace of anything on the rag
when you wipe it with thinner.  If it comes back brown, then clean it again.

Once it is finally clean, lay down an appropriately sized bead of RTV.  When
assembled, that sucker won't leak a drop!
