Paul, the other way you can tell the tubo housing is that it has a

coolant

port right above the smaller stud which must be plugged if using it

with

other than the stock turbo manifold.  The NA do not have the port

open.

I am glad you reminded me about that. That pipe just above the heat

shields

is the turbo water cooling supply line. The new manifold has enough
meat in the flange to drill and tap it to supply water to the turbo.
Provided you have a water cooled turbo of course. Otherwise the flange

will

block that off if  used with turbo rotor housings.

 Paul, one thing you might consider related to the turbo installation.

That

is perhaps to have the manifold cast with an indention or some other
indicator of where it should be drilled and tapped for accessing the

coolant

for the turbo - might save you getting a bunch of e mail asking where to
drill and tap. .  I presume that an "O" ring around the hole would seal

it

or I guess the regular turbo manifold gasket would take care of that.

Now

that I think about it - that surface is going to be machined flat so
probably not worth the effort.

Good idea Ed. I will put an indentation in the pattern as soon as I get it
from Tom. It will be cast out here on the west coast by the guys
capable of doing stuff like this cast turbo air plumbing elbow
and turbo compressor housings. Here are a couple examples of their fine

work.

I asked them how they got such a great finish and were able to
do 0.140 thick walls and they said they had a secret recipe for the
casting sand developed over a period of thirty years. I wish Tracy had his
PSRU cast by these guys. We could knock five pounds out of the weight :-)

I think the gasket does the job.

Paul,

Looking over these photos again today, I realized that perhaps the way to
get those clamping ears on the rough castings is to have the foundry leave
some gates on it.  Those "tabs" coming radially out of these castings will
eventually be cut & ground off.  But it the foundry left a few in place,
they would make great clamp pads.  Wouldn't have to modify the pattern at
all to do that!
