The best way to install the fitting is to do it after the case and
front cover are bolted together so you have the pressure squeezing on
it and like I said use high strength locktite so you don't have to
torque on it hard.

Ken why use a pipe thread? Why not a face seal fitting with an O ring
seal?

Are these fittings, or at least the O-ring type, available with the proper
metric thread for the front and rear housings?

I don't know. I think most people are going from the stock metric
fitting to AN fittings for the oil cooler plumbing anyway so you might just
use an AN fitting for this modification. Mazdatrix and others sell a kit
for the Mazda that converts the oil cooler lines to AN SS hose.
Mazda had a lot of trouble in the second gen RX7 with failed oil cooler
lines.
