I think you are missing something Chrissi. These brushes are going to get wear that
is 1/1000 of the wear of say a Hoffman or MT electric prop brushes. In some cases
they are only engaged for seconds on any given flight. Take off and climb at
low pitch. Increase the pitch for cruise. Decrease the pitch for landing
and you are done using the brushes.

I am aware of how the design works, great concept. Full time slip rings wear but do not accumulate dirt, part time slip rings do not wear full time but in a dirty enviroment have to come down through the accumulated dirt each time. Possibly a felt wiper pad would help?

I see. You are thinking of a pusher. Well perhaps you will need a shield
to deflect any oil vapor that tends to accumulate on the front side of the
spinner bulkhead. Good point. The Hoffman, IVO and the MT would have the 
same problems.
