VW engine. Any four stroke four cylinder engine, without reducing gear,
weighing 75 kg or less, in    good working order (and roughly equivalent to
the VW or up to 20 kg lighter) presently in use or coming on line, can be
mounted on the   IBIS.
 >     It is also possible to use the French engine "JPX 4T 75A" 80 HP, the
German "LIMBACH 2000 EC" 68 HP or Australian "JABIRU  2200" 80 HP. All of
these engines are without reducing gearbox.
 >   A two-stroke engine is not recommended as its specific consumption is
much greater than that of the four-stroke engines.
 > Some  rotary engines can also be considered as alternative solutions.

The

65 HP Continental engine, on the contrary, is too heavy and too   bulky.

I looked at it again and I think these people are talking about the Moller or
NSU or Outboard Marine little rotary with air cooled rotors. These are not
available in the Moller case and hard to find in the others. Even a single
rotor Mazda based engine will be too heavy. If you know a machinist with time
on his (or her) hands, you could build one up with aluminum end housings.
That would get you closer.

For the new guys Royce Wise has come up with a great idea. Cast iron
end housings are a dime a dozen as they rarely wear out. Royce
cut one down so just the cast iron wear surface is only about
1/4 inches or less thick. All the water jacket holes are still in the right
places and you have the proper heat treat for the wear surface. 
Now all he needs do is NC machined aluminum water jacket with the baffles
(shown in this picture) in the right places  and presto change O you 
got a much lighter weight end housing. Will work great with a P-port 
as you do not have to deal with complicated to machine side ports.
