The rotary is a four stroke (Otto cycle) in the same way that your Chevy
is a four stroke. It is a bit simpler to think of the valving action as being
very similar to a piston port two cycle. The rotary piston opens and closes
the ports, performing the function of puppet valves, and the intake and
exhaust are, for a short period, open at the same time (overlap). How about a
piston ported four stroke?
