Actually, I think you need some expansion allowance from the center (5") tube
growing in length and stressing the two square tubes that are running from
the exhaust port to the tangential position. The square tube can grow and
shrink by pushing the assembly further from the engine as it heats up, but
the end attached to the can will grow more than the engine will expand, and
then shrink back when cooled.  this will cause eventual fatigue cracking.

The tangential spiral shown, if not attached to the can until it enters it,
may provide sufficient expansion relief.  If I recall, Finn's muffler was two
short stacks going directly into the can -- this would be worst case -- no
place for absorbing the movement.
