Subject: Transverse down flow rad dimensions

Bill, I checked my rad to see if it would fit in the
new configuration. Looks tight but I think it will
fit with no cowl modifications other than loping off
the hump on the bottom of the cowl which I was going to do anyway.

turbo and the intercooler with a push pull rod going straight
back
to the instrumental panel. The rad setup shown will be redone.

IMHO a major breakthrough in aircraft engine motor mounts.

Paul,

What are the dimensions on the firewall where the mount supports bolt to
on
this picture?
How much weight does the rear bracket carry. Will have to beef up my
firewall at that point, need to know how much.

That is a Kis Cruiser and it is composite. The firewall is 1/2 inch (I
think)
plywood with glass on both sides. Four or five layers of 10 oz as I
recall.
Vance engineered it so he would now. The rear mount has about 50 pounds
max static on it and about 300 pounds in a six G turn or a hard landing
drop in.
While the airplane is climbing and the prop thrust is a max the load on
the
rear mount goes to near zero.

As I recall you have a metal Murphy so beef it up like this Questair
Venture
picture with a steel hat section. The Questair has a very short link but
the
link can be of any length. Mine goes from the oil pan to the top of the
firewall.

Thanx for the info on how to beef up the rear bracket.

How far apart are the supports where they bolt to the firewall? Trying to
get an idea of how far apart they are. While there is alot of clearance on
the supports to turbo on a 13b, a longer engine like the 20b would have
less clearance on the turbo. Trying to get an idea on how far apart they
would have to clear. If my supports are too close where they bolt to the
engine, my engine supports would go through or too close to the turbo and
not make this an option for me.

An example is the super rebel firewall. The motor mounts are 30" apart on
the horizontal, 23 5/8 " vertical . I have lots of room under the firewall
(good for radiators) and not much above it( water pump in way syndrome). No
offset for the engine mount.

You are confusing me a bit Barny. If the plans call for 30 inches apart
apparently the firewall is beefed in that area to take the motor mount
loads. Are you using a TO4. I have drawings on the TO4 but I don't have any
on the manifold you plan to use with the TO4. I will do a 3D for you if
you can come up with the dimensions on the manifold. I will also need
a sketch of where the thrust line is relative to the hard points on the
firewall.
