Paul, if these engine mount drawings by Steve Wittman are not germane
to the present discussion please just disregard them.    These are
the bed mount for the 0-300, which I believe is heavier than the 13-B
by a large margin.    There is no diagonal bracing. Hundreds of these
mounts  have been flown since the 1950s without a failure record.
Still being built the same way today as the 0-300 is very popular  in
the Tailwind. I have to send each view separately as that is how we

Interesting. Can anybody tell me where the lateral support for the engine
is coming from? I have no doubt what so ever that this design works.
Clue: extremely subtle. Perhaps even Steve did not understand
why it works.

The engine case bolted into the four points marked "36" provide the cross
bracing.

I assume those are rubber bushing bolts. Was the engine bolted into the
Tailwind in a solid fashion? I don't think so. The bed mount in
my Continental O-470 is not solid. Those are the rubber motor mount
locations. If there is rubber in those locations it won't work
to keep those tubes from  bending sideways.
