Don & Jim,

What do you think of this idea?
The cowling would have to be attached to the engine so the
clearance between fan blades and cowl remained the same.
The back of the cowl would have to be perfectly sealed to the rest of
the airplane. The same thing goes for the exhaust pipe.
It must be sealed to the cowl. No leaks!

The advantage is you could put the rest of your heat exchanger
wherever you like. Oil cooler and intercooler. The back side 
of the heat exchangers must be sealed to their cowl air outlet.

The whole cowl is pressurized (up to 80% of dynamic pressure)
so the explosion loads are rather high and the cowl must
be strong. That is about 80 pounds per square foot or 
.55 psi at 200 mph.

A drawback is you will lose a bit of cooling depending on the
temp rise of the air inside the cowl before it goes through
the heat exchangers. Probably not more than 10 or 15%.
