 > One concern I have about this catagory is would it then absolve
judges from
considering an auto conversion in judging for Grand Champion or
other awards
with "conventional" aircraft. There are those who "have issues"
with
conversions and would consider them a safety issue and therefore
not
qualified to compete against a purebred.
I'd prefer not to see conversions get segregated at shows. If
anything we are
doing more to embody the spirit of experimental aviation than
the
quick build
exactly to plans route that is so common today. There is nothing
wrong with
the simplified kit planes; everyone has their own comfort level
and
 abilities.
 Just my 2 cents.

Very soon, rotary powered aircraft will be OUT PERFORMING
conventionally powered aircraft by such a large margin that those
airplanes may require will require a special "traditional" sticker.
It will be hung on the prop like a scarlet letter. The judges will
just pause briefly to give them a nod, maybe say something like
"Pretty" and then move on to the real machines. Jerry

Good thought Jerry.
I also agree with Chrissi in not being outsiders so to speak, but Ed
also has some
good thoughts.
Hi Ed.
Royce

What really happened is you shook the hell out of them.
"Oh my god... THREE rotary powered airplanes at a two bit flyin." :-)

Good point, there certainly was a lot of interest shown - even by the
judges. But, I don't think any of us would have even entered the judging
had we know there was not going to be an Auto conversion award. Certainly
many aircraft there were more cosmetically enhanced that our birds.

But, the audience did get the treat of a 3 rotor flyby and who knows- that
may have made as big an impression as anything. So far, I have not been to
a flyin where the flying rotary was outnumbered. However, It would be nice
to see some new airframes and faces of flying rotaries at flyins. I've
looked over Finns and Tracy's aircraft so many times I know them by heart
{:>). So common folks lets get to work on those projects and get them to
flyins {:>).
