Paul,
I'm not redoing the motor mount. I am going to modify the top of
the cowl
to accomodate a more standard forward facing inlet scoop and a top
of the
cowl air exit. You should appreciate this since the inlet that I'm
deleting
is one of those no good NACA scoops. :-)
Those are some pretty old pictures. The oil cooler will sit in
the space
behind the alternator shown in that first pic. The alternator is no
longer
in that position. Its been relocated to the plugs side to make room
for an
inlet duct. The ducting for the oil cooler will be almost
identical to my
rad ducting with venetian blind cowl flaps in the top of the cowl to
regulate airflow through the cooler.

So it will be a more or less rectangular Setrabe oil cooler?
Sounds cool looking Mike (pardon the pun) :-)

Look like we reached the same conclusion about oil cooler
location. Jerry
Jerry,
My first iteration also had the oil cooler in this location, but with a
side cowl exit. The problem is that there is too much hardware in the way
and it blocks the exit. A bottom cowl exit is problematic because the RV-4
has a large triangular footwell extension that intrudes into the engine
compartment. So I'll exit out the top.
Your approach should work (as its working for Chuck). But if I were to do
it over, particularly in a side by side airplane, I'd put it down beside
the radiator in the bottom of the cowl. That way you can get away with just
one inlet and one outlet (divide the duct if you want to regulate airflow
independantly for rad and oil cooler). In hindsight I wish I'd done it this
way originally, but too late now without a rebuild of the motor mount.
