Pete has a Lycoming (at the moment :-)) but he is doing some cowl pressure cooling research which is
of intense interest to us.
Pete sent a lot of good pictures so I will handle just a few at a time.

OK what value of air pressure are you seeing here at what airspeed
in this NACA duct feeding the intercooler?

These don't work as well as venetian blind type flaps.
I suspect the flow through an aircooled engine cowl can
be greater than 50% of the forward velocity. Slots and louvers
like this can be highly restrictive.
