This idea has been around for years.
You basically install a local area network in your airplane
and use these modules wired in series on a 3 or four wire
RS232 buss. The modules are placed wherever you need to measure
or control something. Some modern cars are now using
this idea. Saves miles of wiring.
My interest is in data acq for engine parameters like oil/water
temps and pressures. Almost any computer can then be used
for data acq.
The price for these modules is now about 1/5 of what it used to be.

Could I use one of these to input all 4 EGT & CHT probes into my RMI MicroMonitor. I would like to build a "scanner" which would scan the signal from each cylinder for a predetermined time (say 2 - 5 seconds) and rotate the input to my MicroMonitor. The MicroMonitor can't monitor all 4 channels simaltaneously. RMI suggests using a rotary switch to manually switch channels. I would prefer to have automatic switching. The automatic alarm feature of the MicroMonitor is more likely to catch a hot CHT or EGT sooner than I would during high pilot workload.

It only works with a notebook computer or a PDA that can input
serial data. You can get a RS232 to USB converter for those
computers that don't have RS232 ports.
