Royce, I think we could do worse than build a helicopter transmission
with a bunch of ford gears.  I keep looking at the ford rear ends in
all the race cars, and Tracy's sweet redrive.

I have been doing a lot of research into automotive parts being used in
aviation.
GM uses an aluminum case frnt wheel drive differential in the four wheel
drive trucks that is strong as an ox. It uses CV axles, and can be turned
up or down depending on the direction of desired rotation for the rotor
mast.
The mast could be attatched to the diff. with a coupling, and supported in
seperate bearings like RotoWay does.
Another point is using a lockup torque converter giving the machine
advantages of a turbine. ( no clutch, start the engine, it idles, and then
will bring the rotor up to speed by accelerating the engine.)
It would also be easy to use automotive axle shafts, couplings etc.
Most automotive parts are very strong, easy to come by, and come in many
different shapes and sizes.
