While I was traveling around Oz I saw very few what we call full
size Ford pickup trucks here in the states. The C6 auto tx was and
variations of are still used in full size Ford V8 cars and pick up
trucks starting about 30 years ago as I recall. Don Dunbar ordered
his from the states. I suspect they were never imported into Oz.

Used parts in good shape are as little as $20. Probably less
than $150 for new parts. Try Cal Tex Auto Transmission parts.

Thanks Harry and Paul,
We do have a goodly number of F100's over here - does that have the 6 gear
planet holder or is that something more exotic. Paul I did contact 'Slauson'
but I don't think they will supply me, as I'm not a transmission builder.
Does Cal Tex have e-mail ?

Does anyone know about the Power Glide planetary gears, apparently they use
them in drag racing - so I'm led to believe

They do indeed use them for drag racing. Very much favored.
Two ratios used 1.76, and 1.82. After market gears are available up to a 2.11
ratio.
There is 6 gears in the planatery set.  They are run behind big blocks, as well as
small blocks.
You can get race gears and shafts that will handle 1000 hp in this transmission.
The only limiting factor would be the ratios available. Also the drag racers, and
the oval track guys have bought most of them up, so they are getting scarce.
