I know it 'sounds right' to lean the engine to the no-rpm-drop point

but

if

you go a bit further with the leaning, the fuel burn goes down much

faster

than the rpm.  The 2-3 knots of airspeed loss (if at WOT) is a small

price

to pay for the reduced fuel burn.  If not at WOT, just open the

throttle

a

bit more to compensate for the lean mixture drop.

Also, do you have a mixture monitor and if so, what is it reading at

your

cruise setting?

    What fuel are you using? Leaded or unleaded? My O2 sensor is still
working after approx 100 hours of 100 LL but my spark plugs appear to be
lead fouled in as little as 20 hours.

Hi Ed.
I use unleaded around the home paddock and 120/130 avgas when away. I don't
know what the 120/130 refers to but it "ain't low lead".  My results may be
misleading as I have not used avgas for more than 18 hours without a dose of
unleaded.. The oxygen sensor seems to be unaffected by avgas.
When refuelling away I decant the oil into a mixer container with some fuel
drained from the tank, give it a good shake and put the mix into the tank
before the fuel.
How's the flow monitor coming?
