Ed we have talked about this before. Dave Atkins has been flying for
years with his rad under the engine. He flies all over the country
from Seattle. I have seen his airplane at sun & Fun, Copper State and
OSH. Ask Kathy Atkins to tell you how well it works. Here too is a
picture of a King Air with two Orenda V8's. Rads under the engine.
There is also a Orenda Powered duster with the rads under the engine.
Paul , are this company selling much that you are aware of or is this just
Proof - of concept photos ? I would have thought the surviving Queen Airs
would be the prime candidate for this sort of conversion .......
Fly good - Bryan
What killed the Orenda V8 was the cheap availability of the Czech copy
of the PT6. That and the 1000 pound firewall forward, 1200 hour TBO.
Furthermore over here in the states we have a similar situation to
that in Europe. The duster guys can get farm diesel (jet) fuel sans taxes
at about 85 cents a gallon so the Czech PT6 became popular.
Mean while the Canadian tax payers took it in the shorts for
subsidizing Orenda to the tune of 50 million Canadian.
Ironically the P&W PT6 is a Canadian product. Nobody ever said
the majority tax payer was smart :-)
