I am going to use the Request To Send line out of the
PC UART COM RS232 port.

One can control the bit directly in DOS using QB code.
There was a book written in 1986 called Mastering Serial
Communications by Peter W. Gofton. Sybex ISBN 0-89588-180-2
Lots of QB code snippets on direct control of PC UARTS.
Bit 1 controls the RTS line in the Modem Control Register.
RTS is not used by either the GPS or the DGH Modules.
For COM1 it is at address H3FC. For COM2 it is at H2FC.

To set RTS leaving all other lines the same:

MCRBitPattern = INP(&H3FC)
MCRBitPattern = MCRBitPattern OR 2
OUT(&H3FC, MCRBitPattern)

To set to zero:
MCRBitPattern = INP(&H3FC)
MCRBitPattern = MCRBitPattern AND (NOT 2)
OUT(&H3FC, MCRBitPattern)

This must be done after OPEN COM(x) initialization.

Like all programming I need to fool with it for a bit :-)

BTW still getting a lot of bounces. Are you stuck with your ISP ?

Are you sending to lors01@msn.com or tcrook@rotaryaviation.com?  Maybe try
the alternate one and see if it's less trouble.

BTW toggling RTS was way easier than I expected.
If you use RS in the option list of OPEN COM the RTS output
bit is set low. If you don't it is set high. So all you need
is one OPEN COM for the modules and a different OPEN COM for the GPS.

Piece of cake.
Here is the code that works. Don't throw those old DOS computers
away. They make great software programmable square and rectangle pulse 
generators :-). This switch is super simple. Four wires out of the
nine pin COMx D connector. RX pin 2, TX pin 3, GND pin 5 and
RTS pin 7. 

BTW I have not heard from Ed in awhile. I think that ice storm
cut off his power. Oh well no rush getting this done. He probably
can't fly anyway.
